The short version
- We don't collect anything. No analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting, no account system.
- We don't transmit anything. The extension makes zero network requests. There is no backend server.
- Your settings stay on your device. Preferences and the last acceleration check live in your own Chrome local storage.
- We never touch Chrome's settings. The extension detects, links, and reminds — you flip the toggle yourself.
1. What this extension does
Capture Fix checks whether Chrome is currently rendering with GPU hardware acceleration — the usual cause of black-screen captures in OBS, Discord, Teams, and similar recording tools — and shows you the graphics card it found. It can open Chrome's settings page with the exact “Use graphics acceleration when available” toggle pre-searched, and it runs an optional “recording mode” workflow that reminds you to turn the setting back on once you're done. That is the entire feature set.
2. Information we collect
None. The extension does not collect, log, transmit, or sell any user data.
Specifically, the extension does not collect:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address, phone number, etc.)
- Health, financial, authentication, or location information
- Web history, browsing activity, or page contents
- User communications (messages, emails, chat logs)
- Analytics, crash reports, telemetry, or usage metrics
3. Information stored locally
The extension stores a small amount of state using the standard Chrome
chrome.storage.local API:
- Which recording-mode step it's in (normal, preparing, recording, or restoring) and when that last changed.
- The result of its last graphics-acceleration check — on, off, or unknown — including the GPU name if one was found.
- Your preferences: reminder interval, whether desktop notifications are enabled, and whether the toolbar badge is shown.
- Whether you've seen the welcome page.
This data lives only in your own Chrome profile, on your own device. It is not synced to other browsers, not sent anywhere, and the extension developer has no access to it at any point. Uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage removes it entirely.
4. Permissions and why they're requested
storage- Used to save recording-mode state and your preferences locally, as described in section 3.
alarms- Used to schedule the reminder that fires while recording mode is on, prompting you to turn graphics acceleration back on.
notifications(optional)- Shows the reminder as a desktop notification instead of only a toolbar badge. This permission is off by default and is only requested if you turn notifications on in the extension's Options page, directly inside that click.
The extension requests no host permissions and no tabs
permission, so it has no ability to read page contents, browsing history, or the URLs of
your other tabs.
5. Third parties
The extension does not contain any third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, or tracking pixels. It does not share data with any third party, because it does not collect any data to share.
6. Remote code
The extension does not fetch or execute remotely hosted code. All JavaScript that runs is bundled inside the extension package you install from the Chrome Web Store and can be audited there.
7. Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change with it. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store changelog.
9. Contact
Questions about this policy or the extension can be sent to the contact email listed on the extension's Chrome Web Store page.
